About Doubloon
I'm a chemical engineer. I grew up in New Orleans, went to LSU, and came back home after graduating in 2017.
My first job out of school ended when COVID slowed everything down and I got laid off. I found work again, but I came out of it wanting something that was mine, something that didn't depend on someone else's project pipeline.
I'd been building and selling woodworking pieces on the side for a while, cold-calling shops to get them on shelves. Clothing wasn't the plan. But I kept noticing print polos everywhere, and then one afternoon walking through Audubon Park, the thought showed up fully formed: a snowball polo and a Mardi Gras color block flannel.
So I figured out how to make them. Found vendors, learned to create a spec sheet, got samples made, and started walking into stores with them.
Doubloon opened in 2024.
The name comes from the throw. Beads typically get thrown out, while doubloons get kept. Every krewe strikes its own, a new design each season, and people hold onto them for years. That's what I wanted to make
Every design starts as a hand drawing: a snowball, a crawfish, an alligator, an oyster. Things you already know if you're from here.
Today you'll find Doubloon in shops across Louisiana and Mississippi, and online.
